2nd VNS Procedure

Well, this time around wasn't pleasant. Not that ANY surgery is pleasant but this leg caused more problems than the other one. Apparently this vein didn't want to be messed with. First of all it was 2 mm whereas my right leg vein was 1 centimeter. The left vein also had a twin and the docs had a hard time figuring out which vein was the troublesome one because they kept on intertwining. Also this vein was "shocked". Whenever they would inject more anestetic it would shy away and get smaller. That means that they had to use less anestetic on me so I could feel them trying to prod the wire through my vein even more. Ouch!!

The docs were having such a hard time getting the procedure done that at one point during the surgery Dr. Smith said I had three options. Option 1: I could either stop there and they could treat half of the vein. The problem with that is that the results wouldn't have the desired result. Option 2: I could come back and try again another day. Excuse me? Go through this again? Option 3: They could cut me open and yank the vein closer towards my skin so they could thread the wire through my vein easier. I didn't like the sound of any option but I went along with option 3. More pain and agony ensued and finally after three LONG hours it was all over. All I can say is that I am very glad I had the troublesome vein last. If I had those problems during my first surgery I would have seriously contemplated getting my other one done!
